Signed Additions

When you add something to a Wiki page that has already been created, it can be good manners to sign your name next to your addition. If you create a page about yourself you can sign your additions with a link to that page, like this -- Simon Willison

It's not necessary to sign small changes, e.g. fixing a typo, adding a related page link, etc. Think about how the page will read to somebody who hasn't been following it. Excessive signatures scattered everywhere can make it harder to read. Ask yourself if it really makes any difference whether anybody knows who the author is (and anybody who really wants to know can always check the document history).

Q: When you sign your addition or make some other change, how do you annotate the change so that it shows up in the Recent Changes, for example: "(2002.09.10 05:51:46) (history) Front Page . . . . Matt Wilkie [added ref to wiki interface suggestions]" -- Earl Cooley

A: When you edit a document, there is a field under the large textarea called "Summary of change". This is where you place your annotations. -- KevinW
There is a bug with Mozilla 1.0/Win where the title of the text input boxes does not appear on the edit page. Other versions of Moz seem to be okay.See Css Wiki Bugs

Q: Another issue is that Recent Change signage is showing raw IP addresses instead of my Wiki name. Am I going to have to manually zap a browser cookie each time I come here to edit a page? -- Earl Cooley

A: No, add this site to your cookie whitelist (or just the one cookie if your browser supports that) or put up with not having your name displayed.
